On Thursday, Oct. 28 Blue Ridge Mountain EMC’s broadband department hosted a trunk-or-treat event at BRMEMC’s headquarters in Young Harris, Georgia. The trunk or treat was open to everyone to drive through and receive candy. This may seem like a small gesture of gratitude, but it was a way to ensure children of our local communities would have a safe event to collect candy and celebrate Halloween.
“This was our first time hosting a trunk or treat and we were blown away by the attendance. We hope to make this an annual event,” said Director of Broadband Alex King.
The day was filled with its share of “tricks” beginning mid-morning with a major power outage. BRMEMC had posted early that morning on its socials about the possibility of strong winds. Those strong winds caused several trees and limbs to fall on power lines causing outages that included a substation to go out and fiber internet service. Overall, there were approximately 8,000+ members without power. As with any outages, our crews worked tirelessly to get power restored in a timely manner. By the time the trunk or treat began most all the outages had been restored.
“The effort by our crews and employees to restore power is to be commended,” said General Manager Allan Glidewell. ‘Their efforts ensured power was restored and we could continue with the trunk or treat. This event was well attended and there was no less than 200 cars to come through. This is the kind of service we want to provide to our membership.”
